by Ramil Iskandarli

Center for Biological Diversity Public Union has appealed to the world organizations for animal protection regarding the animals that have fallen into landmines in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, APA reports.

“We, as the representatives of the civil society of Azerbaijan, strongly condemn Armenia’s mine terrorism against the nature, biological diversity, and animal world of the South Caucasus.

According to official information, more than 1 million mines and unexploded ordnance are likely to exist in the territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan – Karabakh and East Zangezur – which were freed from the occupation of the Republic of Armenia in 2020 and cleared from the remnants of the armed forces of Armenia and terrorist groups in 2023. This area, roughly the size of Lebanon, is considered one of the most mine-contaminated areas in the world.

Recently, videos and photos of 2 bears (Ursus arctos) who were victims of landmines in the liberated areas have become public (https://twitter.com/i/status/1715434183785426948, https://twitter.com“>https://twitter.com”>https://twitter.com/HikmetHajiyev/status/1715772738751664299
